Mental health is a vital part of overall well-being. It enables people to manage stress, reach their potential, learn and work effectively, and contribute to society. Good mental health supports decision-making, relationship-building, and shaping our environment. Mental ill health can stem from complex factors like childhood adversity, poor education, financial hardship, inadequate housing, and family challenges. These conditions affect how people think, feel, and behave and can also impact physical health. In the UK, mental health conditions are the leading cause of disability, with 1 in 4 adults experiencing a diagnosable issue each year.
Through extensive research ELAROS discovered that around 40% of people with depression or anxiety disorders also have a long term condition. This insight led to the initiative to expand Open-OH into a tool that would support people living with more than just chronic physical illness but also mental illness – giving rise to Adjustments by Open-OH.
Partners
For this project, funded by NHS England through the Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI), ELAROS is proud to be partnering alongside and leading experts:
Dr Nikki Cordell, accredited specialist in Occupational Medicine, Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (FFOM) and CEO of Cordell Health;
Jo Yarker, Registered and Chartered Occupational Psychologist specialising in health and wellbeing at work and a managing partner of Affinity Health at Work.
Funders
Through this project, we aim to create a resource to help people to boost their comprehension of mental challenges in the workplace and provide an environment which alleviates mental pressure for employees, rather than aggregate it.
Our Adjustments intervention will be available to all app users looking for this support, for any condition area as an optional feature.
